What's on your Cultural Radar?

Hi classmates!!

In my cultural snapshot I read about Zadie Smith. She is a British author recognized for her novels that explore themes of identity, race, and culture. She was born in London in 1975 and achieved fame with his first novel, White Teeth, which received numerous awards. She has twice been included in Granta's list of the top 20 young British novelists.

Zadie talks about:

  • Music: Bashy's first album in 15 years showcases powerful production and storytelling, reflecting his 80s London upbringing.
  • TV: A film inspired by The Decameron combines medieval plague drama with modern confinement themes, mixing tragedy and comedy with a strong cast.
  • Book: Bonding critiques society's algorithm-driven manipulation through a smart, satirical look at a woman working for a sex app.
  • Art: An exhibition on Britain’s colonial past features artists like Turner and Shonibare, exploring empire, slavery, and abolition.
  • Concert:  Chappell Roan’s style and powerful voice are highlighted; his NPR Tiny Desk performance is a great alternative if tickets are hard to find.
  • Theatre: Shakespeare’s Coriolanus offers profound insights into war and heroism, with notable productions by Ralph Fiennes and upcoming work with David Oyelowo.
The recommendation of the series based on The Decameron seems to me the most interesting because it adapts the classic work to modern situations of confinement with humor and sharpness. It transforms the pandemic into a medieval comedy, offering a fresh and fun perspective on Boccaccio's work.

My cultural radar:

TV: Outlander
I'm watching Outlander and I highly recommend it. The series combines history, romance and science fiction in an entertaining and fascinating way. The plot follows Claire Randall, a World War II nurse who travels to eighteenth-century Scotland, offering a thrilling mix of adventure and drama. It's very interesting and addictive!

Book: Dune
At the moment I'm reading Dune by Frank Herbert. I first saw the Dune movies and I liked them so much that I was intrigued to learn more about this universe. This sci-fi classic features a rich and complex world with political intrigue, power struggles, and a fascinating ecosystem on the desert planet of Arrakis. The narrative is immersive and explores deep themes such as leadership and survival.

Music: Tiago PZK
Tiago PZK is an artist who has captured my attention with his unique and vibrant musical style. Their album Portales Deluxe is a shining example of their ability to fuse trap, reggaeton and rap with innovative production and introspective lyrics. His music is not only catchy, but also deep, reflecting his artistic evolution and his ability to connect with his audience on an emotional level. Portales Deluxe is a testament to his talent and creativity, cementing him as one of the most outstanding voices in contemporary urban music.

Place: Algarrobo Beach
Algarrobo beach, on the central coast of Chile, is a destination I visit every year. With its golden sand and calm waters, it is a very peaceful and beautiful place, perfect for relaxing and enjoying stunning sunsets.

Places to eat: Samagu sushi
My family and I love sushi from Samagu Sushi. We always order sushi from there to watch movies. They offer an excellent variety of fresh rolls and nigiris, with an elegant presentation and friendly service.
